To get the most out of your CPAP therapy, it’s essential to regularly inspect, clean and replace your CPAP gear. This guide covers all you need to know when it comes to caring for your gear.

CPAP care maintenance guide

Inspecting your gear

The best way to know if your gear is in good shape is to make a habit of inspecting the components that make up your mask and your device. Here are a few things to look out for:

  • Device air filters should be checked at least once a month for dust and dirt build-up. A blocked air filter can reduce the air pressure being delivered to you.
  • Humidification water tubs should be checked for wear and deterioration once a month. They can build up with bacteria and mineral deposits over time.
  • Masks will consist of various parts depending on the type of mask you use. You should inspect them during your daily or weekly clean as they can deteriorate if not maintained.
  • Masks and device tubing can sometimes get damaged with small holes or tears where air can escape. You should also check your tubing during your daily and weekly cleaning.

Replacing parts and accessories

Just as you would replace the tyres on your car or its cabin filter, your CPAP gear also has parts and accessories that need replacement. You should replace parts immediately if you find any damage or if they reach the following recommended replacement schedules:

Every month

AirTouch memory foam mask cushions

Every 6 months (at least)

Air Filter. Replace more often if there are any holes or blockages by dirt or dust

Every 6 months (at least)

CPAP air tubing

Every 6 months

Discard and Replace

upon any visible deterioration (cracking, crazing, tears)

Mask frame

Mask headgear

Silicon mask cushions

CPAP device should be upgraded every 5 years if you wish to receive quality therapy with the latest technology and comfort features.

It is recommended that you maintain and inspect your products on a regular basis, and replace any components if deemed necessary. If any visible deterioration of a component is apparent (cracking, discolouration, tears, holes, etc.), the component should be discarded and replaced.

How Often to Clean CPAP

Maintaining a routine to clean your CPAP equipment is key to ensuring comfort and longevity in your equipment.

Daily: Short tube | Elbow | Mask cushions (Silicone, AirTouch cushions)
Weekly: Frame with tubing | Headgear | Device tubing | Humidifier tub (cleaned)
Monthly: Humidifier (Inspect for wear and deterioration)

CPAP cleaning FAQs

What's the best way to clean my mask?

Your mask regularly comes into contact with natural oils from your skin. Over time this can cause accelerated wear and tear on your mask, potentially compromising its seal and irritating your skin.

This is why we recommend cleaning your mask every day to make sure your equipment is working to its full potential.

Wash your mask in clean warm (around 30oC) water with mild liquid detergent, making sure you rinse all components thoroughly before allowing them to dry naturally.Make sure you do not soak the mask.

If you're running short of time, our mask wipes are a fast and easy cleaning option that can be used on any mask. Simply wipe out the mask and leave to dry naturally.

For specific instructions on cleaning your mask, please refer to your mask user guide.
