Singapore 3G network and service retirement

On 26 July 2023, Singapore’s Government Agency, Infocomm Media Development Authority (“IMDA”) announced that all three Mobile Network Operators (“MNOs”) providing 3G services in Singapore – Singtel, StarHub and M1 – plan to retire their 3G services by 31 July 2024.

This page provides general information about the impact of 3G retirement on the connectivity of ResMed 3G devices (“ResMed 3G Devices”) and may be updated from time-to-time.
Why is this 3G retirement occurring?

The IMDA has announced the retirement of 3G services across Singapore as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the country’s network. This decision, unfortunately is out of ResMed’s control.

When will Singapore retire its 3G network?

IMDA has announced that Singtel, StarHub and M1 plan to retire their 3G services by 31 July 2024.

What will happen to my ResMed 3G Device after retirement of the 3G network?

There is no impact to the delivery of positive-air-pressure (“PAP”) therapy.

With the retirement of 3G Networks in Singapore however, your ResMed 3G Device will be unable to transmit and receive data wirelessly locally. Instead, your data will be recorded on the removable SD Card in your device which can then be used by your healthcare provider to continue to monitor and assess your condition.

Also, myAir app will no longer work on your 3G Device. However, you may still access and view sleep data on the 3G device by selecting “Sleep Report” from Device’s home screen.

I have a ResMed 3G Device, what can I do with the device after the network cease?

You may continue to use the ResMed 3G Device to receive your positive-air-pressure (“PAP”) therapy without any data connectivity.

For customers with active usage on myAir app, we are offering an upgrade for your 3G device to 4G. You may refer to the list of distributors in Singapore who will be able to share with you more details around pricing.

As a Healthcare Practitioner, how does my customers/patients see how they’re performing on therapy without access to data connectivity?

Customers will be able to see their nightly data on the device home screen each morning, as well as access their therapy reports by accessing the Sleep Report menu on the home screen.

For customers to have access to comprehensive therapy details within the Sleep Report menu, ensure that Essentials Plus is selected on the device. Essentials Plus can be enabled within the Clinical Menu by selecting Settings, followed by Essentials and finally by selecting Plus.

By enabling Essentials Plus, you can allow highly engaged customers to access additional features, including changing mask type, EPR, SmartStart and Run Warm-up.

As a Healthcare Practitioner, how will I see how my customer is performing on therapy with no data connectivity?

You will be able to use AirView to view data from customers by manually downloading the data from the device’s SD card.

Can my affected ResMed 3G Device work in another country with a 3G network?

There is no impact to the delivery of PAP therapy.

In markets where 3G networks continue to be available, your ResMed 3G Device will be able transmit and receive data wirelessly.
